The Detroit Tigers have a plan to crush the Yankees’ dream of landing Tarik Skubal

Major League Baseball continues to heat up as several contenders prepare to reshape their rosters this winter in an effort to end the Los Angeles Dodgers’ dominance. Among all the headlines, much of the spotlight now shines on Tarik Skubal, one of the most dominant arms in the game.

Can the Detroit Tigers keep Tarik Skubal?

The Detroit Tigers are exploring every possible scenario to keep their ace, but the truth is that the team remains far from reaching a contract extension with Skubal. This uncertainty has fueled rumors of a potential blockbuster trade-a move that would yield a massive return, though it would also mark a painful loss for the franchise.

However, a new report from The Athletic by Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal reveals how Detroit truly intends to handle the situation. According to a team source:

“As one Detroit Tigers person put it, ‘We want to win with him.'”

That statement alone makes it clear: the Tigers plan to push for a deep postseason run in 2026 with Tarik Skubal leading their rotation, even if it’s his final year under contract.

Keeping Skubal gives Detroit a legitimate shot at competing for the World Series. He was instrumental in their strong start last season, helping the Tigers reach 60 wins early in the campaign and anchoring one of the league’s most effective pitching staffs.

But for rivals like theNew York Yankees and New York Mets, this is bad news. Both teams were expected to be top destinations for Skubal if the Tigers decided to make him available, given his status as one of the best pitchers in MLB.

We can all agree: Tarik Skubal is worth every penny. Whether he stays in Detroit or moves elsewhere, his presence instantly brings any team closer to a World Series title.
