The Dallas Cowboys’ return to the field was deeply emotional. After a two-week break, America’s Team faced the Los Angeles Raiders, honoring the late defensive end Marshawn Kneeland with multiple heartfelt tributes.

Kneeland’s death shook the franchise to its core. Just 24 years old, the promising young player lost his life under circumstances still under investigation.

On November 6, reports surfaced of a police chase through the streets of North Dallas. The driver had refused to stop for a routine check.

Hours later, the vehicle was found abandoned after a crash. Kneeland’s body was discovered a few feet from the car, with a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted.

Now, the Cowboys are paying tribute to their fallen teammate.

Honoring Kneeland

The Cowboys’ front office had already announced several tributes planned for Kneeland. The most enduring is the number 94 sticker that players will wear on their helmets for the remainder of the season.

Hours before kickoff, the team’s social media accounts shared images of T-shirts featuring Kneeland’s face, birthdate, and date of death. These shirts were distributed to players and staff.

Perhaps the most poignant tribute was the locker reserved for Kneeland in the team’s dressing room. Photos circulating online show his jersey hanging neatly in the space, untouched.

Before the game, both teams and fans at Allegiant Stadium observed a moment of silence. The tribute visibly moved many players, some of whom were brought to tears.

Kneeland’s final game

Kneeland’s last appearance on the field was during Monday Night Football in Week 9. That night, he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone, scoring the first touchdown of his career.

In the wake of his passing, the NFL and its teams have begun outlining initiatives to support players’ mental health. While those plans take shape, the Cowboys continue to honor their teammate by dedicating today’s game to his memory.
