The Dallas Cowboys finally have Dak Prescott playing at an MVP level – and the buzz is real

After missing much of 2024 due to injuries, it seems Dallas Cowboys fans are witnessing one of the best versions of Dak Prescott, and it’s understandably exciting many. There’s no doubt that in the first two games of the season, the quarterback has been, if not the best, one of the top performers on the entire team.

He missed nine games last year, but now we can even start placing him near MVP-level discussions.

The resurgence of Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas starting quarterback has completed 68.6% of his passes for a total of 549 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. While these stats may not seem elite, they don’t fully capture how well he’s played at the start of the NFL season.

In Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Prescott had his team in position to win, though a couple of mistakes by CeeDee Lamb cost them a comeback attempt in the final offensive drive. In Week 2, his numbers improved, though it took 40 points to secure a victory, highlighting defensive struggles for the Cowboys.

It’s precisely this performance in the Cowboys‘ 1-1 start that led former quarterback Chase Daniel to speak highly of Prescott, claiming he’s outperforming every other quarterback in the league.

“I don’t know if there’s a quarterback in the NFL right now that is playing the position of quarterback better than Dak Prescott is playing,” he said.

When asked about Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Daniel stood firm, asserting that Prescott is doing things exceptionally well with Dallas, and that the Cowboys only need to shore up their defense to become a contending team.

“The Cowboys aren’t a good team. Team-wise, the defense is struggling, but if you tell me that you’re going to have Dak Prescott playing at the level he’s playing and the way he’s graded out and what I’ve seen on film through two games,” Daniel said. “Right, Josh Allen, sure, whatever James, thanks for ruining my thunder. I don’t think offensively anyone would have expected what the Dallas Cowboys have done through two games. Because you go into Philly and almost win that game, right, and you look at just pure what Dak has put on tape this year. It’s looked like two years ago when he was second in the league in MVP voting.”

It’s notable that Daniel considers Prescott’s performance unexpected, given that in 2023, he had already shown his ability to dismantle defenses. It’s true that 2024 brought challenges, with the Cowboys undergoing drastic changes to their offensive line, lacking a solid running game, and dealing with CeeDee Lamb‘s holdout, which slowed down their top receiver early on.

Later, an injury after eight games erased the strong form he had been displaying, seemingly causing the NFL to forget what Prescott was capable of.

Now, fully recovered, he’s benefiting from a strengthened offensive line, a revitalized running game led by Javonte Williams, and a high-impact passing game spearheaded by Lamb and George Pickens. Thanks to this, Prescott has rediscovered his 2023 form, something that shouldn’t surprise anyone… though, apparently, it has.
