The Cowboys’ secret advantage when playing at AT&T Stadium

Week 7 of the NFL kicks off on Thursday, October 16, however, the game between the Cowboys and Commanders will be on Sunday. The clash between Dak Prescott and Jayden Daniels would represent more than just Dallas’ third win or Washington’s fourth triumph, as the winner could also say they were able to overcome the adversity of the circumstances at AT&T Stadium, home of the Star team.

In their last clash, the Cowboys fell 30-27 to a true offensive recital by the Carolina Panthers. Even with great counterattacks from Dak Prescott and George Pickens, Dallas could not contain the Charlotte rival. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders also lost in their appearance for the sixth round of the NFL, in their case, it was the Chicago Bears who beat them in a heart-stopping 24-25.

The bright sun at AT&T Stadium, a double-edged sword for Cowboys-Commanders

The afternoon sun is a problem at this time of year at AT&T Stadium. Everyone knows it, although Cowboys owner Jerry Jones won’t admit it. Since moving to their Arlington home in 2009, the Cowboys have dealt with the glare of the sun shining through the 120-foot sliding glass doors. Sunday marks the team’s first late afternoon game at the venue this season.

It’s majestic when the sun comes in there

So head coach Brian Schottenheimer was asked about his players being blinded by the light. “Well, I’ve heard about that,” he said sarcastically. “We have pictures of the sun, when it’s setting. There’s a big plan and process. But I think when you look historically at what happened, it hasn’t really affected many situations. We plan for it and so do the opponents. It’s majestic when the sun comes through there“.

However, where is the catch? Yes, there is a catch, because the sun is a double-edged sword in the Cowboys’ stadium. Dallas receivers over the years would probably not call the sun “majestic”. Quite the opposite: as an example, we have to go back to last season against the Eagles, when CeeDee Lamb was open in the end zone but “couldn’t see the ball” because he was blinded by the ‘beautiful’ sun.

Jerry Jones talks about George Pickens’ future in Dallas

George Pickens is living his best professional year in just his first season with the Dallas Cowboys. After abruptly leaving Pittsburgh, the receiver has flourished by breaking personal records that have made his contract situation the most pressing issue for the Lone Star franchise; in just six games, the Georgia graduate has scored six touchdowns.

The absence of CeeDee Lamb has allowed Pickens to prove his worth. He has amassed 19 receptions for 359 yards. Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys franchise, publicly addressed the future of his emerging star. “He’s doing more than we expected,” Jones admitted to reporters. “What’s really special is that he’s a real value-add to the team.”
