The controversy between Tom Brady and Scottie Scheffler intensifies: ‘He’s just talking nonsense…’

The discussion surrounding Scottie Scheffler‘s recent comments about balancing career success and family life has taken on new dimensions, with Tom Brady and the LPGA star, Mel Reid, weighing in from opposing angles.

At The Open 2025, Scheffler made headlines after questioning the point of his career and whether it makes him truly happy in life, going as far as to say he would quit if it hurt his personal relationships.

His stance drew praise from those who admired his prioritization of family, but it also prompted a pointed response from the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Brady, who endured a similar situation in 2022.

In an open letter, the New England Patriots legend, who divorced Gisele Bundchen in October 2022, acknowledged the sentiment but questioned the framing. “Why are those mutually exclusive?”

Comparing life to a pyramid the 48-year-old, who now works for FOX Sports, argued that different priorities are interconnected, suggesting that success in one area should enhance another.

Whilst on the Quiet Please podcast, Kira Dixon asked Mel Reid for her take on Brady‘s remarks, and she proved to be at odds with the football legend – regarded as the greatest quarterback of all-time.

“I do see Tom Brady‘s point, I do,” Dixon said. “I actually don’t disagree with him. But I also feel like Scottie is actually doing that. Because he is a phenomenal dad and he’s a phenomenal golfer, so he’s actually doing it.”

“I do see both sides. I think Tom Brady‘s one of the best at life separating stuff, that has ever lived.

“Okay, I was just trying to be nice. I actually think he’s talking s**t. I don’t know. I think Scottie Scheffler is doing a fantastic job.

“He’s doing just fine. Let him be, and not everybody has to be the best best best best at everything that they do.”

For Reid, Scheffler’s model is not one of shifting blocks as Brady described, but a steady foundation built on family, faith, and perspective, whilst Tom’s interpretation seemed to suggest Scottie might be at risk of losing his competitive edge.

Mel meanwhile counters that the golfer is already excelling while keeping his personal life intact, and that far from being a conflicted athlete questioning his purpose, Scheffler appears grounded and secure in his choices.

New England Patriots honor Tom Brady in unique way at Gillette Stadium

The New England Patriots will permanently enshrine one of the NFL’s most celebrated careers with the unveiling of a 12-foot statue of Brady on Friday, August 8.

The ceremony will take place before the team’s first preseason matchup against the Washington Commanders in Foxborough, Massachusetts and will see the seven-time Super Bowl winner become immortalized in bronze.

Brady is expected to attend the event outside Gillette Stadium, where he guided the Patriots for two decades and set numerous league records including 74,571 yards and 541 touchdowns in 285 games.
