The Cleveland Browns won’t give Shedeur Sanders any opportunity; Jimmy Haslam has completely shut the door on him

There’s no doubt that since Shedeur Sanders entered the NFL, he has faced dark and unexpected times. Sanders was projected to be a first-round pick in the recent Draft – ranked as the second-best quarterback behind Cam Ward, who went first overall to the Tennessee Titans.

Before the Draft, reports suggested that Shedeur Sanders wanted to start right away, expecting to be a first-round selection and arrive in the league as a star. However, things didn’t go as planned: he fell round after round until finally being taken in the fifth round (pick 144) by the Cleveland Browns, who had already drafted Dillon Gabriel two rounds earlier.

Five quarterbacks were taken before Shedeur Sanders. Once with the Browns, Sanders became the last option among four quarterbacks and received almost no playing time. He did get a start against the Panthers in the playoffs, where he performed well – but only because Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett were both injured at the time.

The Cleveland Browns want nothing to do with Shedeur Sanders

Kenny Pickett was traded before the season started, and Joe Flacco followed the same path last week. Even then, Kevin Stefanski, the Browns’ head coach, took nearly three days to officially name Shedeur Sanders as the backup quarterback – showing a clear lack of confidence in him.

On Skip Bayless & The Crew (The Arena Gridiron), analysts discussed Shedeur Sanders’ situation, claiming that no one in the franchise wants anything to do with Deion Sanders’ son: “Kevin Stefanski knows if he gives in to Shedeur, he’s a goner. He is dug in internally with the owner and GM that he wants no part of Shedeur.”

Despite what Jimmy Haslam, Andrew Berry, and Kevin Stefanski may think, fans are eager to see Shedeur Sanders lead the Browns’ offense. In his only real opportunity – a preseason game against the Panthers – he played very well, throwing two touchdown passes.

Currently, Dillon Gabriel is Cleveland’s starting quarterback. In two starts, he has shown flashes of potential: two touchdown passes against the Vikings, but a forgettable outing versus the Steelers, throwing 52 passes with no touchdowns. If the struggles continue, fan pressure will mount for Shedeur Sanders to take control of the Browns’ offense.
