The catch of the year made by San Francisco Giants outfielder in an incredible play

The San Francisco Giants have had a roller coaster of a 2025 regular season, with the team currently holding a 61-64 record, three games below .500.

That puts the Bay Area team on third place of the National League West, which is lead by the defending champions Los Angeles Dodgers, with the San Diego Padres coming in second place.

Despite their mediocre record, the Giants still have some hope to make it to the playoffs. They are currently 5.5 games behind on the battle for the National League Wild Card race, where the Chicago Cubs are taking the lead, followed by the Padres and the New York Mets. It’s going to be a fun rest of the season for the California team, there’s no doubt about that.

The catch of the year made by a San Francisco outfielder

San Francisco Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee might have made the catch of the 2025 MLB season — and possibly of the decade — with the help of his knees – yes, his knees – during San Francisco‘s 7-1 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.

Tampa Bay’s first baseman Yandy Díaz drove a pitch to deep right-center, known as Triples Alley at Oracle Park, and Lee made a play that created a buzz on social media and drove the game commentators nuts, as they couldn’t believe what they just witnessed.

Lee ran at full speed to his left and while sliding on his left leg, the baseball bounced out of his glove. The ball traveled to his his left thigh and rolled down to his left calf before it popped up and he pinned it between his knees and snagged the ball with his glove. It was a circus play, and the fans roared as they watched the replay.

Lee says that he went for a slide

“The wind was pretty heavy, and the ball was reaching out a lot, so I went for the slide,” Lee said via interpreter Justin Han. “I did catch it, but I felt like it was going under my body, starting from the chest. It was a funny catch, for sure.” And an incredible one, we might add.

After carefully rising to his feet, Lee took the ball out from between his knees and held it up in the air to confirm the astonishing catch, which drew an amazed grin from right fielder and teammate Drew Gilbert, who said that the move “was pretty crazy.”

Gilbert knew Lee caught the ball between his knees right away, but most people didn’t fully process what had just happened until they saw the replay. “I thought he just went down,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said. “The replay took a while, but our people were talking about it and realized he caught it between his knees. Pretty good. Haven’t seen that one before.”
