The MLB regular season came to an end leaving a mix of historic performances, unexpected surprises and some disappointments. Just hours before the start of the playoffs, we take a look at the moments and statistics that defined 2023 in Major League Baseball

For six intense months, the 30 teams played 162 games that make up the MLB schedule. Beyond wins or losses, this year was full of individual stories that caught the attention of fans, from impressive comebacks to unusual milestones.

Who was the best hitter in MLB 2025?

Aaron Judge once again showed why he is a superstar in the league by leading in wRC+ with 204, a figure that put him well ahead of his closest pursuer, Shohei Ohtani. Although he did not reach the 220 points of the previous year, his production was enough to establish him as the most dominant hitter of 2025.

George Springer, for his part, enjoyed a second youth after the All-Star Game with a 210 wRC+ in the second half, the 38-year-old veteran had his best campaign since 2019, ranking as the third best hitter in all of Major League Baseball.

MLB 2025 surprises: Juan Soto stealing bases and the Rockies making negative history

One of the most unexpected stories of the year was Juan Soto‘s transformation into a threat on the bases. The Mets outfielder finished tied for the National League lead in stolen bases with 38, 27 of them after the All-Star break.

At the other end of the spectrum are the Colorado Rockies, who had one of the worst seasons in modern baseball history. With a run differential of -424, they surpassed the 1932 Red Sox’s negative record and became the worst offensive-defensive team in more than a century.

Most dominant pitchers of 2025: Skubal, Skenes and the new generation of pitchers

The most dominant arm of the year was Tarik Skubal, who accumulated an fWAR of 6.6, enough to repeat as the favorite for the American League Cy Young Award with a 2.21 ERA, 241 strikeouts and a 0.89 WHIP.

On the other hand, Paul Skenes made it clear that he is the future of the National League. Although he only won 10 games, he finished the season with the best ERA (1.97) in all of MLB. His 216 strikeouts in 187 innings and a 2.36 FIP put him at the top.

Home runs, power and hits: the craziest MLB 2025 stats

Cal Raleigh became a sensation thanks to his power at the plate. With a launch angle of 25.2 degrees, he hit 60 home runs, the highest total of the season.

Kyle Schwarber also had an admirable campaign. At 32 years of age, he set personal bests in almost every major offensive metric: 56 HRs, 132 RBI, .563 slugging and a wRC* of 152.

The 2025 season will be remembered for its contrast between the historic and the unexpected, where we saw figures consecrate themselves and elevate their level, but also teams that disappointed or fell short of achieving their objectives. Now, the best part begins, a playoff series that culminates with the long-awaited World Series.
