For Kansas City Chiefs fans, 2024 will be remembered as the year they won the NFL championship with Patrick Mahomes. On the other side of the coin were teams like the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys with disappointing campaigns.
These two franchises have a large number of fans in Mexico despite having gone almost 30 years without being Super Bowl champions. They will have to wait at least another year after failing to qualify for the playoffs this season
Kansas City Chiefs, the new dynasty in the NFL
Patrick Mahomes and company defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in Super Bowl LVIII. This was their second consecutive title and third in the last five years
They are in fifth place on the all-time winners’ list with four crowns and could soon equal San Francisco and Dallas with five
Since the Super Bowl era began in 1967, no team has been able to win it three times in a row. Kansas City wants to be the first and has a roster that can certainly do it in 2025
Dallas Cowboys and their 30-year NFL drought
Jerry Jones’ team disappointed their fans twice in 2024. Dallas was the champion in the NFC East with a 12-5 record
On January 14, in the Wild Card Round, they were humiliated at AT&T Stadium by the Green Bay Packers by a score of 32-48. They were favorites to advance to the Divisional Round and even had a real chance of reaching the Conference Finals
For the current campaign, Mike McCarthy remained as head coach and Dak Prescott became the highest-paid quarterback in the entire league with a four-year, $240 million contract
Injuries (most notably to Prescott) and a lack of depth in the roster took their toll as they missed out on the postseason prematurely with a 7-8 record (2-6 at home) in third place in their division with two games remaining in the regular season
San Francisco 49ers, from heaven to hell in the NFL
As already mentioned, San Francisco played in Super Bowl LVIII in February against Kansas City and came close to ending a 29-year drought. Unlike Dallas, they have reached three Super Bowls in 2013, 2020 and 2024
It seemed they were on the right track with Brock Purdy at the controls and playmakers such as Nick Bosa, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey, among others
Their 2024 campaign has been woeful with a 6-9 record in last place in the NFC West. Between injuries and major slumps, they will have to watch the playoffs on television in January.
