The altruistic cause in which Michael Jordan invests part of his fortune: ‘He has more money than he could spend in ten lifetimes’

NBA legend Michael Jordan is making a significant impact off the court by opening free health clinics for uninsured families in his home state of North Carolina.

These clinics aim to provide quality healthcare to underserved communities, reflecting Jordan’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy beyond his sports career.

In February 2025, Jordan inaugurated his fourth clinic, the Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic, in Wilmington, North Carolina. This 7,300-square-foot facility, in partnership with Novant Health, features 12 patient rooms and operates on weekdays, offering primary care services to all individuals, regardless of insurance status.

“He has a vision to expand across the country and would love to see other celebrities follow his lead,” a source told In Touch Weekly. “He wants to leave a lasting mark with his legacy that’s about more than just basketball.”

“Michael is not doing this for publicity or some sort of tax break, this is something he genuinely cares about,” the insider notes. “He has seen firsthand how hard it is for underprivileged communities to get access to good medical care, and he’s vowed to do what he can to help.

“He’s personally involved in making sure these clinics are staffed with the best doctors, that they’re in locations where they’re needed most, and that families don’t have to jump through hoops to get help.”

Jordan continues to give back

Jordan’s philanthropic efforts began in 2019 with the opening of two clinics in Charlotte. The success of these facilities led him to donate $10 million to establish the Wilmington clinics, aiming to bridge the gap in healthcare access for local residents.

The Wilmington community has already seen positive outcomes from these clinics. The first clinic, opened in 2024, served nearly 1,800 patients in its first nine months, demonstrating the demand for accessible healthcare in the area.

Through these initiatives, Michael Jordan is not only enhancing healthcare access in North Carolina but also setting a precedent for other public figures to contribute meaningfully to their communities. His efforts exemplify how individuals can leverage their resources and influence to create lasting positive change.
