Terrible update on Caitlin Clark: Indiana Fever faces several more weeks without its star before taking on Dallas Wings

The star guard, the former Iowa standout who never missed a game in her college career or rookie season, is going through one of the toughest stretches of her professional journey. A left quadriceps strain has sidelined her since mid-July, and now the news is far from encouraging.

Head coach Stephanie White has been careful not to rush her back, but uncertainty is growing. While ESPN projected a return for August 12, the WNBA’s official app has repeatedly changed her status. Fans and analysts agree: the wait is starting to feel endless.

Alarm bells for Indiana Fever

In the latest episode of the Mick Talks Hoops podcast, veteran reporter Scott Agness – who has covered the Fever for 12 years – dropped a statement that lit up social media: “Be patient. At least several more weeks.” His comment came in response to a fan question and quickly went viral.

Mick, the show’s host, backed Agness’ credibility, noting that he was part of the organization when the Fever won their first championship. For many, that made his words almost an unofficial medical update.

Indiana Fever adds Odyssey Sims

With Clark, Sydney Colson, and Aari McDonald all sidelined due to injuries, the team needed immediate solutions. Stephanie White turned to a hardship contract to bring in Odyssey Sims, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft and a former All-Rookie selection.

Sims, who averaged 16.7 points and 4.2 assists as a rookie, brings experience, basketball IQ, and leadership. She recently played for the Los Angeles Sparks but was waived in July 2025 before receiving the call from the Fever.

Can the Fever hold up without Caitlin Clark?

Despite missing their top star, Indiana has managed to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference with an 18-14 record, thanks to key contributions from Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and Sophie Cunningham. Now, with Sims joining the lineup and the next matchup against the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, one question looms: can the team sustain its winning form until Clark returns?

The answer will depend on how well they can balance their offense without their primary scorer and how quickly the newcomers adapt to the team’s playing style. One thing is certain – fans will be watching closely and counting the days until Caitlin Clark is back in action.
