San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion suffered a fractured left hand, according to multiple media reports.
Encarnacion was injured during Friday’s preseason game when he dived to catch a ball in the outfield.
Encarnacion is a sensitive loss and his condition is unknown
San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said it’s a shame because Encarnacion-Strand had earned the opportunity to get a lot of at-bats with the team heading into the 2025 season.
As of Saturday, his condition was still unknown regarding the degree of his injury and how long he will be out of action for San Francisco.
The 27-year-old had been serving as the team’s starting designated hitter for the season.
He was having a very good preseason having accounted for two home runs and 14 RBIs (second in the Cactus League) to go along with a .302 batting average.
In his professional career, he began with the Miami Marlins, who signed him as an international free agent in 2015 and he made his MLB debut in 2022. He saw action in 23 games, in which he hit three home runs, 14 RBIs and two stolen bases, for a .182/.210/.338 batting average.
As a free agent, he had a minor league contract with the Giants in 2024. He appeared in 35 games for the San Francisco Giants, registering five home runs, 19 RBIs and one stolen base with a .248/.277/.425 slash line.
