Terence Crawford hits Floyd Mayweather Jr. with low blow amidst exibition match rumors

There aren’t many boxers in the history of the sport who can claim they had a more accomplished career than Terence Crawford. “Bud” put a bow on a truly stunning run shortly after turning 38 years old. A win over Canelo Alvarez in his final fight fully cemented his legacy, paving the way for him to walk away from the sport on his own terms.

Crawford really had nothing left to prove to anyone. He accomplished everything he set out to do, and made history in the process. But his incredible performance against Canelo had many thinking that Bud would continue fighting. He simply looked to still be in the prime of his career, and it felt like a retirement should be a ways away. Bud saw it differently, closing the book with a record of 42-0. Not quite Floyd Mayweather Jr. at 50-0, but very close.

Terence Crawford wouldn’t fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition

Speaking of Mayweather, his name has come up as a hypothetical opponent for Crawford in what would have been a true mega fight between many fans’ GOATs. No one is quite sure who would win that bout; not even Crawford. He was asked by streamer Adin Ross how a fight with “Money Mayweather” would play out.

“It’d be a good chess match. Floyd’s one of the greatest at playing chess, so it’d be a game of who’s gonna out-think who.“

Then, when asked if he would fight Mayweather in a potential exhibition match, Crawford stopped that idea full-stop: “Nah man. Floyd is old. Floyd is done.“

Mayweather has been rumored to be in advanced talks to fight Manny Pacquiao in a long-awaited, highly-anticipated rematch. Pacquiao returned to the professional boxing scene in 2025 with a surprising draw against Mario Barrios. It’s unclear if a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight would be officially sanctioned or an exhibition. But it sounds like Crawford wants no part in any of it. He’s happily retired.
