The boxing world is still trying to come to terms with the news that Terence Crawford, the man who recently made history by defeating Canelo Alvarez, has hung up his gloves.

After weeks of intense speculation, the Nebraska star finally broke his silence to clarify the real reasons behind his definitive farewell to the ring, where it had been said that the main reason was because of money he owed, but, according to him, the reasons are different.

Terence Crawford leaves a historic legacy

Crawford retires at the absolute pinnacle, boasting an unblemished record of 42 wins and 0 losses, with 31 of those triumphs achieved before the limit. His victory over Canelo not only cemented his place at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings, but also made him the only male boxer to be undisputed champion in three different divisions, a feat that seemed impossible in the modern era.

However, his departure was surrounded by controversy after the announcement by the World Boxing Council (WBC) to strip him of his title due to non-payment of a $300,000 sanction fee.

Crawford clarifies the reasons for his retirement

“My decision has nothing to do with the title situation. 38 years old is old in boxing; I’ve been in this since I was seven years old,” Crawford explained

For the fighter, the physical factor and the accumulated time of wear and tear were the real triggers. Crawford recognized that, in a sport that relentlessly favors youth, it is better to retire when you still have the ability to choose your own terms.
