The boxing world is preparing for a true spectacle in three months time. Taking place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez is set to defend his undisputed super middleweight belts against Terence Crawford, who many consider to be the best pound-for pound boxer in the world.
Both boxers are taking a big risk, putting their legacies on the line in order to achieve greatness. “Bud” is the one who’s truly going out of his comfort zone. It’s one thing to step into a ring with the dangerous Alvarez, but doing so while stepping up two weight classes is truly tricky. Many have noted that Crawford has looked quite big in recent public appearances, but he will still be at a disadvantage due to fighting at a weight he never has before.
Shane Mosley throws cold water on Terence Crawford hype
While Alvarez’s recent performances have made Crawford somewhat of a popular pick to win, boxing legend Shane Mosley has come out to make clear that Crawford’s confidence at an unusual weight will be a bigger downfall than many expect.
“I think Canelo is too big for Crawford. I think the reason why, if Crawford was a mover like the rest of them, then he could have a good chance against Canelo. I think Crawford is a fighter and that’s going to be dangerous. That’s gonna be a problem, he is a fighter. He wants to move a little bit, but his heart is not in moving. He is going to want to sit there with Canelo and fight him.“
Mosley seems to be concerned for Crawford, and he believes the boxer needs a different strategy while fighting at 168. He didn’t think “Bud” was dominant even when he stepped up to 154. Stepping up even further may be too much to overcome.
