The Mets managed to beat the Mariners by a score of 3-1, a victory that evens the series and fills the New York team with confidence as they are in second place in the National League East Division, however, not all is good news for the Mets.
Juan Soto lived a moment of high tension after a verbal exchange with a fan during a practice session in which the player was tested at first base.
The incident occurred after a comment from the stands criticized his defensive ability, to which Soto responded bluntly, making it clear that he would not tolerate being publicly challenged without reason.
Juan Soto argues with fan
A video shared by a user on social media shows the moment when a fan shouted: “With that bad hand you can’t play first. To catch you have to catch it in front, where you can see it”.
Soto stopped, looked at the fan and responded several times: “Is it what you want or what I say?” The tension was evident, but the outfielder maintained his firm stance.
Juan Soto’s fight history
It’s not the first time Juan Soto has responded energetically, as the Dominican has been involved in several similar moments so far this season:
At the end of July, he had a heated argument with umpire Emil Jimenez over alleged wrong decisions in the strike zone, a situation that led to his manager being ejected after defending him.
He has also had run-ins with former teammates, as happened on June 10 against the Nationals, when he exchanged words with pitcher MacKenzie Gore after hitting a home run. Even at the start of the season, during Spring Training, he responded with a home run to a fan who called him “overrated.”
His confidence has grown as his performance has improved. After a slow start in his first year with the Padres, Soto has raised his level and through mid-August has 30 home runs, 70 RBIs and an OPS of .883.
These events highlight the passion with which the Dominican slugger lives the game, but it could also be the result of the pressure he is under in a tight competition with the playoffs fast approaching.
