Tennis star Zverev confesses he is “forced to eat” and that “food is a waste of time”

Tennis player Alexander Zverev, current world number two, has surprised the sporting world by confessing that he is forced to eat and that for him food is a waste of time.

“For me, eating is kind of a waste of time. I’d rather be someone who spends five hours training on the court. If I was given a pill and didn’t have to eat again, I would take it,” the German tennis player told Bestbesetzung de MagentaTV.

Zverev clarified that “I don’t eat badly, but I eat incredibly little” and admitted that “I have to be forced to eat”.

The 27-year-old tennis player shared that “I don’t enjoy food on holiday. I’m not one of those people who’s like, ‘Wow, I’m having such a good time!’… I’m the kind of person who comes back from holiday two kilos lighter.”

Alexander Zverev, who is 1.98m tall and has a very slim build (officially weighing 90 kilos), pointed out that “when I was younger, it was much worse. So now I weigh 10 or 15 kilos more than I did five or six years ago”.

Zverev lashed out at the Olympic food: “We suffered with the food and to sleep”

Alexander Zverev already starred in a food controversy during the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, in which he lost in the quarter-finals to Lorenzo Musetti.

“The Olympic Village wasn’t the best, unfortunately I have to admit. I stayed there, as did the whole German team, our federation forced us to do so… We suffered a bit with the food and with the sleeping conditions. There was also no air conditioning in the rooms, which was a bit difficult for me, but it was the same for everyone, so I’m not complaining. In that sense, I think Tokyo was much better and the organisation was also much better,” said the German tennis player.
