Team USA starts strong in WBC exhibition: Aaron Judge delivers first-pitch magic

Aaron Judge wasted no time reminding the baseball world why he’s one of the most feared hitters alive. In a World Baseball Classic exhibition matchup against the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale, Arizona, the United States captain jumped on the very first pitch he saw and sent Bobby Witt Jr. and Bryce Harper home with a two-run single to center in the opening inning.

That early offensive flourish immediately set the tone, giving Team USA an early advantage and energizing the packed crowd.

Witt Jr. got things rolling with a leadoff hit, and Harper followed with a productive double, placing two runners in scoring position with no outs.

Judge‘s quick swing drove both runners across the plate, showcasing his power and timing. Giants starter Adrian Houser briefly navigated out of the jam – surviving with a double play and a strikeout from Cal Raleigh – but the early damage had already been done. Team USA had taken a 2-0 lead in a game designed to prepare them for the intensity of the World Baseball Classic.

In the bottom of the first, the Giants answered with a run of their own. Willy Adames doubled off Paul Skenes to start the inning and later scored on a groundout by Patrick Bailey.

Despite this response, the U.S. squad’s offense was far from finished. The early exchange highlighted the competitive nature of the exhibition, giving both hitters and pitchers an opportunity to fine-tune their approach against quality opponents.

USA’s stacked roster sets high expectations

The United States roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic is deep, versatile, and loaded with star power. Aaron Judge headlines the lineup, but several elite players – including Gunner Henderson, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Will Smith, and Paul Goldschmidt – were on the bench, underscoring the team’s remarkable depth.

Pitching was equally impressive, with Paul Skenes recording multiple strikeouts and keeping the Giants largely off balance. The team’s balance of power hitters and reliable arms makes it one of the most complete rosters in WBC history.

With Pool B competition looming against Brazil, Mexico, Great Britain, and Italy, expectations are high. Judge, widely considered a favorite for tournament MVP, leads a squad capable of dominating both at the plate and on the mound.

The combination of veteran presence, All-Star talent, and a few rising stars promises an exciting tournament for fans. Early exhibition games like this one not only help players get into rhythm but also give fans a preview of the thrilling baseball expected when the official group play begins.

As Team USA continues its preparations, one thing is clear: the squad is poised to make a deep run, with both leadership and talent spread throughout the roster.
