On Tuesday, August 26, it seemed to be just another day, until social media lit up with news that shook not only the entertainment world, but also the sports world. Taylor Swift announced her engagement to American football star Travis Kelce.

Quickly, MLB fans did not miss this opportunity and put a touch of humor to this news, which at first glance, has nothing to do with them. A Padres fan mocked his team by posting that Swift received a ring before his team

Another fan joked that Swift and Kelce announced their engagement specifically that day to overshadow former MLB player Maikel Franco’s birthday, “Taylor Swift had no female artist to steal the spotlight from today when she announced her engagement, so instead she tried to take advantage of Maikel Franco’s 33rd birthday. Not on my watch,” the tweet reads

Another user posted a photo of a Mets fan at the stadium holding a sign alluding to the two celebrities’ engagement and their baseball team.

The same user also posted a photo of Kelce hugging Swift and relating it to Giancarlo Stanton and his ability to hit rockets.

The same image was used to criticise San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt and his displeasure with his hitter Luis Arraez.

This whirlwind caused by the news is not going to calm down very easily, since an agreement still has to be reached to set the date of the event. And undoubtedly, this will also be the subject of memes and ridicule.
