Taylor Swift’s new album is already a juggernaut. Her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, has shattered Spotify’s record for the most-streamed album in a single day in 2025, accomplishing the feat just 11 hours after its release.
The streaming service announced the achievement today, confirming that Showgirl has overtaken Playboy Carti’s March album, Music, for the year’s top spot, as reported by Rolling Stone.
The milestone comes just days after the album also broke Spotify’s all-time record for pre-saves with more than five million. During an appearance on Good Morning America on Friday, Spotify revealed a staggering 1.2 million users were streaming the album at that exact moment.
Taylor’s confession that shocked her fans
While fans celebrate the success, Swift has revealed that the album was born from the physical toll of her monumental Eras Tour. In a recent appearance on the Magic Radio Breakfast Show, the 35-year-old superstar admitted that after 149 shows across five continents, she was struggling.
“When I was on tour last summer… I was getting sick a lot, I was always like physically sore,” Swift explained. “But I had reached the point in the show where I could do it muscle memory. So I needed something to wake my brain back up.”
Writing Showgirl became her creative outlet to stay mentally engaged while her body was on autopilot.
Taylor continues to surprise fans and media
In a post on Instagram celebrating the release, Swift thanked her collaborators and teased the album’s theme, writing, “If you thought the big show was wild, perhaps you should come and take a look behind the curtain.”
That look “behind the curtain” is already earning critical acclaim. A five-star review from Rolling Stone called the album “the castle she built out of all the bricks that have been thrown at her… the empire belongs to her.”
