Tavia, the wife of the Chiefs’ owner, sends an emotional message following Kansas’ elimination and Mahomes’ injury

Tavia Hunt, wife of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, shared a deeply emotional message after Kansas City‘s 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, a defeat overshadowed by Patrick Mahomes‘ season-ending ACL tear.

She leaned on faith to process the heartbreak publicly, reflecting on perseverance and resilience while backing the 30-year-old quarterback to respond stronger than ever after playing through discomfort in recent weeks.

“Football teaches us a lot about perseverance, humility, and resilience,” Tavia Hunt wrote online. “Not every game ends in a win, and following Jesus never comes with a promise of ease or comfort.

“But it does come with the promise that God is at work-faithfully and purposefully-even in seasons that hurt. Our trust isn’t in outcomes, but in a God who remains steady when everything else feels uncertain.

“Life is bigger than football, even when football means so much. Our ultimate hope isn’t found in a playoff berth or a trophy-it’s anchored in eternity.

“Grateful for this team, this community, and the journey-through every high and every hard.”

The Chiefs‘ 16-13 loss to their AFC West rivals marked their eighth defeat of the season and officially ended their playoff hopes for the first time in more than a decade, meaning they will watch the Super Bowl from home rather than the field.

Kansas City will next take the field against the struggling Tennessee Titans out of the AFC South, offering a chance to regain confidence and finish the season on a more positive note. The game is scheduled for December 21 at 13:00 ET / 10:00 PT, with Gardner Minshew expected to start at quarterback for the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes ACL recovery timeline

Mahomes passed for 3,587 yards and 22 touchdowns this season but will miss the postseason after tearing the ACL in his left knee. The Chiefs confirmed that he and the organization are “exploring surgical options,” with the goal of a full recovery ahead of next season.

Recovery timelines can vary significantly. Tom Christ of Motion Stability Physical Therapy explained that ACL surgeries typically occur two to four weeks after injury, which could place Mahomes‘ procedure in early January. That schedule would make a Week 1 return in the 2026 NFL season possible, though it would be considered aggressive.

Past examples provide optimism. Chris Godwin returned roughly eight months after an ACL/MCL injury, while Christian Watson came back in about nine months following a torn ACL. Outcomes depend heavily on the severity of the injury, the presence of additional damage, and the pace of rehabilitation.

The Chiefs have not disclosed the specific grade of the tear. Medical guidance notes that Grade 1 ACL injuries can heal in 4-8 weeks, Grade 2 injuries in 6-9 months, and Grade 3 injuries often require 8-12 months of recovery.

For now, Mahomes‘ focus shifts fully to rehabilitation. His determination, paired with Tavia Hunt‘s message of faith and resilience, underscores a shared belief that even a devastating end to the 2025 campaign can become the foundation for a stronger return.
