Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have a real shot at the Super Bowl

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have posted impressive numbers over the last four seasons, clinching the NFC South title each year. Yet despite their divisional dominance, they have fallen short of reaching the conference championship, being eliminated twice in the divisional round.

Now, with Baker Mayfield fully in command of the offense and a revamped unit surrounding him, the Buccaneers enter the season with high expectations. Many see them as legitimate contenders to reach the NFC Championship Game-possibly even the Super Bowl.

However, concerns remain, especially on defense. The unit lacks key pieces to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks, and without that vital component, the team’s ambitions could unravel quickly.

The challenge ahead is substantial for head coach Todd Bowles, who recently signed a two-year contract extension. The time has come for the Buccaneers to prove what they’re truly made of.

What the Buccaneers need to consider

On paper, they remain the strongest team in the NFC South. Having secured four straight division titles, there doesn’t appear to be a clear challenger within the division to dethrone them.

The road won’t be easy, but the team must take the next step-reaching the conference final, and from there, a chance at the Super Bowl. The NFC is packed with elite opponents. The reigning champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, stand in the way, along with formidable contenders such as the LA Rams, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings-all teams poised to fight for a championship berth.

Tampa Bay’s schedule looks manageable. Aside from their divisional matchups, they’ll face several teams that missed the playoffs last year. Among the tougher opponents, they’ll have to face teams from the AFC East, with the Buffalo Bills likely to present the biggest challenge.

If the Bucs can sweep their division games and pull off a couple of surprise wins, they could host a Wild Card game, which would give them a major psychological edge heading into the divisional round.

The primary obstacle remains the defense. If Bowles can elevate the unit’s performance, Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes-and Super Bowl potential-will rise significantly.

A dangerous offensive arsenal

The Buccaneers boast an impressive receiving corps: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, and first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka. Evans remains the standout, but the others are poised to elevate their game-something the team will certainly need.

Egbuka, in particular, could develop quickly during training camp and emerge as a key contributor early in the season. With these four targets, Tampa Bay’s offense could be truly formidable.

I think Mayfield is proof of the concept of coaching matters, systems matter, team build matters. But more than anything, if you can process quickly and get the ball out on time from the pocket, you don’t have to be 6-foot-5 to play in this league. He has become a professional quarterback as opposed to a college kid just running plays,

Said an NFL personnel evaluator.

This is the right moment for the Bucs to capitalize on their offensive firepower-even if their defense still looks vulnerable.
