Sydney Sweeney has revealed her impressive transformation for the role of boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. The first official image from the film has been released, showcasing Sweeney in an action-packed moment inside the boxing ring.

The biopic, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, will spotlight Martin’s career and contributions to the sport. In addition to starring in the film, Sweeney is also taking on the role of producer, further cementing her place as a rising powerhouse in Hollywood.

Sydney Sweeney’s extreme transformation for Christy Martin biopic

To portray Christy Martin authentically, Sweeney underwent an extreme physical transformation. She gained over 30 pounds, much of it going to her chest and behind, in order to reflect Martin’s muscular yet feminine physique. Speaking with W Magazine, Sweeney shared her experience of the transformation.

“My body was completely different. I loved it,” she said. This dramatic change was part of her three-and-a-half-month training regimen, which included weight training in the morning, kickboxing sessions midday, and more weight training at night.

The physical change was striking. “I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy!” Sweeney confessed. Despite the initial shock of her new body, she embraced the strength that came with the transformation.

“I was so strong, like crazy strong,” she added, describing the positive effects of her rigorous fitness routine. For Sweeney, the changes were not just cosmetic but also gave her a newfound appreciation for the physicality required to be a professional athlete.

Directed by Australian filmmaker David Michod, known for movies like War Machine and The King, the Christy Martin biopic features a talented supporting cast that includes Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Ethan Embry.

Michod’s direction promises to deliver a gritty and authentic portrayal of Martin’s rise in the male-dominated world of boxing. As one of the sport’s most iconic female fighters, Martin’s story is one of perseverance, resilience, and breaking barriers in the face of adversity.

This biopic is set to elevate Sweeney’s career to new heights. It offers a chance for her to demonstrate her range as an actress, stepping away from roles that have often leaned on her physical appearance and instead showcasing her strength and depth as a performer. If successful, this film will not only mark a career milestone for Sweeney but also firmly establish her as a versatile and talented actress.

In addition to the Christy Martin project, Sweeney will also appear in the upcoming films Americana and Eden, both of which are slated for release on August 22. With these projects, Sweeney continues to solidify her place as one of Hollywood’s most exciting rising stars.
