Social media roast turns into a Yelp nightmare
Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, the cornerback took to Instagram to mock Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
He posted a photo of himself facing off against Kelce during the game, captioned: “Should have stayed with that thick s-.”
The remark appeared to be a dig at Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift, suggesting he shouldn’t have moved on from his ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.
The comment did not sit well with Swifties, who quickly retaliated by review-bombing King’s Grill, the Florida restaurant owned by Gardner-Johnson’s mother, Delatron Johnson.
The influx of negative reviews led Yelp to place a warning label on the restaurant’s page, stating: “This business is being monitored by Yelp’s Support team for content related to media reports.”
Google also took action, reportedly removing a wave of recent reviews.
However, the attacks may have been futile, King’s Grill has been closed since late January.
Gardner-Johnson’s parents, Brian and Del, addressed the situation on TMZ Live, making it clear that the online backlash wasn’t affecting them.
“We’re good,” Del said confidently, revealing that they had already moved on to a new restaurant in Cocoa, Florida, called Village Bier Garten.
Despite the controversy, Gardner-Johnson has not publicly responded to the situation.
Meanwhile, Swift supported Kelce from a private suite at the Caesars Superdome, though the couple was not photographed together after the Chiefs’ hopes of a three-peat were crushed.
Kelce has remained out of the spotlight following the loss, fueling speculation about his future in the NFL.
As he weighs potential retirement after 12 seasons in Kansas City, Gardner-Johnson and the Eagles are celebrating their championship win, with a parade set for Friday in Philadelphia.
