Super Bowl LX Under Surveillance: ICE Steps Up Immigration Checks at Levi’s Stadium

The countdown to Super Bowl LX comes with an unusual atmosphere. As fans prepare to pack Levi’s Stadium on February 8, the federal government has confirmed a reinforced security operation that includes the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents – a measure already raising concern among migrant communities across the country.

What’s happening?

ICE confirms immigration operations during the Super BowlAccording to Fox News, ICE will conduct immigration verification tasks during the most-watched sporting event of the year.

The operation is part of a broader security plan coordinated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which has classified the Super Bowl as a maximumrisk event.Corey Lewandowski, a DHS adviser, was blunt on The Benny Show podcast:”There is no place where shelter can be provided to those who are in this country without documents.

“The message is clear: there will be no exceptions – not even for a massive event like the NFL’s championship game.

Why does the Super Bowl have a reinforced federal presence?

The game has been assigned a SEAR Level 1 rating, the highest classification within the DHS eventrisk system. This means:

  • Multiple federal agencies will be involved
  • ICE, the Secret Service, and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will coordinate efforts
  • Security protocols are expanded due to the event’s international exposureIn practice, the Super Bowl is treated as an event of national significance.

What documents should immigrants bring to the Super Bowl?

According to guidance from the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, migrants attending largescale events should carry documents proving their legal status in the United States, such as:

  • Green Card or permanent residence
  • Passport with entry stamp
  • Checkin and checkout records
  • Employment Authorization Document
  • Notice of immigration approval
  • State ID or driver’s license

Authorities have indicated that individuals found to be in an irregular situation could be detained, taken to detention centers, and potentially deported.

The political angle

Trump will not attend Super Bowl LXAmid the heightened security operation, President Donald Trump confirmed he will not attend Super Bowl LX, saying the stadium is “too far” to travel.

His absence contrasts with the previous edition, when he became the first sitting president to attend an NFL final. In California, however, the political and social climate is different. Public reception would likely be less favorable, and the presence of Bad Bunny in the halftime show – an artist who has openly criticized U.S. immigration policies – adds another layer to the decision.

Quick scan

  • Event: Super Bowl
  • LXDate: February 8
  • Location: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California
  • Risk classification: SEAR Level 1
  • Agencies involved: ICE, DHS, Secret Service, CBP
  • Recommended documents: Green Card, passport, EAD, state ID
  • Risk for undocumented migrants: detention and possible deportation

What happens next

In the coming days, DHS will outline the security perimeters and protocols for the stadium and surrounding areas. Migrantsupport organizations have already begun sharing guidance for attendees.

Super Bowl LX promises a worldclass sports spectacle – but also a moment where immigration policy will be more visible than ever.
