Suggestions that the break-ins at Travis Kelce’s and Patrick Mahomes’ homes were the fault…. of the players themselves!

In early October, NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were targeted in a series of high-profile burglaries, with thieves making off with money, luxury items, and jewelry from their homes.

Despite being victims of these crimes, the aftermath has sparked some controversy, especially after NFL analyst Mike Florio suggested that both players bear some responsibility for not taking proper precautions to secure their property.

What did Florio say?

On the February 19 edition of Pro Football Talk, Florio remarked that it is “incumbent on the players” to take steps to protect their homes and belongings. He explained that the NFL offers resources to help players establish effective home security plans, urging athletes to make use of these services.

“Players are targets,” Florio emphasized, noting that burglars often know athletes’ schedules and routines, making it easier for them to strike when players are away.

Florio’s comments came after seven suspects were arrested in connection to the robberies. According to ABC News, the suspects were from Chile and were involved in targeting other star athletes in addition to Mahomes and Kelce.

While the Kansas City Chiefs stars were the most high-profile victims, they were far from the only ones. KMBC reported that athletes from other sports, including NFL quarterback Joe Burrow, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers player, a Milwaukee Bucks player, and a Memphis Grizzlies player, were also targeted by the same group of thieves.

In some cases, the stolen items were worth staggering amounts. The Milwaukee Bucks player lost $1.48 million in valuables, while Joe Burrow’s home was targeted for $300,000 worth of goods. The Memphis Grizzlies player had approximately $1 million worth of items stolen. All the victims had jewelry taken, with most also losing watches, except for one.

The burglaries have left many athletes feeling vulnerable, with Florio’s comments highlighting the importance of home security for public figures. His advice underscores the need for players to take proactive measures to protect their homes and possessions from being targeted by criminals.
