Success empowers Angel Reese and signals that she will take her game to the next level: Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers remain unfazed

Fresh off her first career triple-double, Angel Reese dropped a line that may echo throughout the WNBA for the rest of the season. Reese logged 11 points, 13 rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists in a 78-66 win over the Connecticut Sun on June 15. The performance not only helped her team secure a much-needed victory but also solidified her place as one of the most versatile and impactful young players in the league.

But it wasn’t just about the numbers. The emotion, the grit, and the message behind Reese’s postgame remarks gave fans a window into her ambition and drive.

“I just wanna be unstoppable,” she said. Then came the follow-up that may have sent a shiver through opposing teams: “I wanna be to a point where it’s hard to guard because they have to guard the pass.”

For someone who has faced relentless media scrutiny, fan backlash, and even criticism for her style of play and social media presence, Reese has consistently responded with results. She leads the WNBA in rebounding with 11.8 boards per game, and she’s proving herself not only as a scorer but also as a facilitator and leader on the court.

The Sky’s win might not have come against a top-tier opponent, but it was crucial for building team chemistry. Chicago’s bench outscored Connecticut’s 36-2, and the team shot an efficient 42.9 percent from the field and 94.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Post-game celebrations

Reese’s leadership was visible in the game’s closing moments, working in tandem with Hailey Van Lith and Ariel Atkins to seal the win.

Her teammates knew the milestone deserved celebration. Reese was drenched in a water bottle shower in the locker room. Kia Nurse even ran over with a towel to protect Reese’s hair, which she’s become known for flaunting both on and off the court. The team’s reaction was a testament not only to her stats but to her growing influence as the heart of a rebuilding franchise.

Still, the game wasn’t without controversy. A scuffle broke out in the third quarter when Sun guard Bria Hartley appeared to grab Reese’s hair while vying for a rebound. Reese responded with a shove after Connecticut forward Olivia Nelson-Ododa stepped between the two. That led to technical fouls for Reese and veteran Tina Charles, who got involved in the altercation.
