Steve Nash reunites with Dirk Nowitzki in Amazon NBA deal, putting LeBron James’ podcast at risk

NBA fans could be witnessing the beginning of the end for one of the league’s most promising basketball podcasts.

Steve Nash’s new broadcasting role

With just three episodes into its second season, Mind the Game, the brainchild of LeBron James, may now be in jeopardy following co-host Steve Nash’s major career move into full-time broadcasting.

Nash, a two-time MVP and Hall of Famer, is set to join Amazon Prime’s brand-new NBA coverage team starting next season.

This marks his first foray into traditional sports media, and his new commitment raises serious questions about whether he’ll be able to continue his role alongside James on the podcast that aims to steer NBA discourse back toward pure basketball analysis.

What makes Nash’s new gig even more noteworthy is the fact that he’ll be reuniting with a familiar face courtside.

Dirk Nowitzki, Nash’s close friend and longtime former teammate in Dallas, will also be joining Amazon’s expanding lineup of NBA talent.

The two stars last shared the court as teammates over two decades ago.

“Now I have to carry this guy again like I did over 25 years ago…”Nowitzki joked, reacting to the news in classic tongue-in-cheek fashion.

The reunion adds to Amazon’s star-studded roster, which already includes Taylor Rooks, Blake Griffin, Stan Van Gundy, and Ian Eagle, who’s slated as the lead play-by-play voice.

The streamer is also reportedly courting even more basketball heavyweights, including Dwyane Wade and Richard Jefferson.

LeBron launched Mind the Game with JJ Redick in 2023 as a response to what he saw as a growing trend in media coverage that focused more on controversy than actual gameplay.

The show gained significant traction, but Redick’s surprise appointment as Lakers head coach brought season one to a halt.

Nash stepped in as co-host earlier this year, helping reignite interest and drawing in hundreds of thousands of subscribers and millions of views on YouTube.

Now, Nash’s move to Amazon, and the time commitment that comes with covering 66 regular-season games, the NBA Cup, and more, may leave James without a co-host once again.

Whether the podcast can continue or adapt remains unclear, but fans will be watching closely.

For Nash, though, the shift marks a return to the basketball spotlight in a fresh capacity.

It also seems to end speculation about a possible return to coaching, rumors that had linked him to a vacancy with the Phoenix Suns.

As the new NBA media landscape takes shape, the question remains: can LeBron find a way to keep Mind the Game alive without his newest partner?
