Steve Kerr names key player driving Golden State Warriors’ success-it’s not Stephen Curry

The upcoming season is a pivotal one for the Golden State Warriors as they chase another NBA championship. With Stephen Curry leading the franchise for over a decade, head coach Steve Kerr is ready to embrace new challenges. Yet, in a surprising move, Kerr has made a decisive statement about who he sees as the team’s true control player this season.

The Golden State Warriors are poised to remain a top contender in the upcoming season under the guidance of Steve Kerr, who has led the team since 2014. This year, Kerr has announced significant changes to the team’s roles and strategy, sparking excitement among fans eager to see how the adjustments will play out on the court.

One of the biggest changes involves Stephen Curry, the longtime leader of the Warriors who has guided the San Francisco team to four NBA championships. This season, however, Curry may no longer serve as the team’s primary control player, signaling a shift in roles and strategy for Golden State.

Steve Kerr names the new key player who will control the Warriors’ pace

The Golden State Warriors are gearing up for a crucial new season, bolstering their roster with key additions. Among them is Jimmy Butler, the 36-year-old six-time All-Star forward, who joins the Warriors with the goal of winning his first NBA championship.

That’s something that has impressed Steve Kerr since his arrival. In a recent press conference, the coach emphasized the importance of having Butler on the team and the impact he brings to Golden State’s lineup.

“We’re going to play at a good pace, but Jimmy controls the game. And the benefit of that far outweighs playing at 100 miles an hour,” said the experienced coach during a press conference at the Warriors’ Chase Center. Kerr’s comments underline the pivotal role Butler is expected to play in orchestrating Golden State’s offense this season.

“He’s a deliberate player, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get out and run,” Kerr explained. “His command of the game connects our defense to our offense. We’ll play fast when we need to, but we’ll run through Jimmy often, which may mean a slightly more deliberate pace.” The coach’s remarks highlight Butler’s central role in shaping the Warriors’ strategy this season.

What the Warriors’ new strategy means for Stephen Curry’s role

Indeed, the arrival of a new key player and Kerr’s comments signal a shift in Stephen Curry’s role within the team. For the upcoming season, Curry may no longer be the primary playmaker, marking a significant adjustment for the star guard, who has spent his entire career dictating a fast-paced game.

However, the arrival and playing style of the new star could benefit Curry on the court, as the two can complement each other. By drawing some defensive attention away from Curry, he may find cleaner looks and more opportunities to excel off the ball.
