Steve Kerr gives an update of Steph Curry that fuels trading rumors

The Golden State Warriors are entering a key point of their 2025-26 campaign. With the February 5 trade deadline aproaching, a perfect storm of injury news and roster frustration has pushed the “Dubs” into a corner.

Steve Kerr provided an update on Sunday about Jonathan Kuminga’s recovery from a bone bruise, but it was his candid words regarding Stephen Curry’s health that has truly sent the trade rumor mill into a new chapter.

Kuminga feeling good

Jonathan Kuminga has been the main focus of speculation since reportedly demanding a trade on January 15. After a period of silence following a bone bruise in his left knee on January 22, Kerr finally offered a glimpse into the 23-year-old’s status.

“He’s doing better. He said he was feeling better… he’s improving; he’s getting closer to being able to play. I don’t know what his status will be for Tuesday [against the 76ers].

The timing of this recovery is crucial. Tuesday marks the Warriors’ final game before the trade deadline. If Kuminga does not suit up for the occasion, it will raise a difficult question for General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.: Should they trade a player whose health is currently influential, or do you hold onto a star who has already expressed a desire to revive his career elsewhere?

The Stephen Curry situation

While the Kuminga saga is about the future rather than the present, Kerr’s comments on Stephen Curry are about the current survival of the team. After he left Friday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons with right knee soreness, an MRI revealed patellofemoral pain syndrome, often called “Runner’s Knee.”

Kerr admitted that the team is in a delicate situation, especially since the season-ending ACL injury earlier this year.

“It definitely puts a lot more stress on Steph’s shoulders not having Jimmy next to him to create shots. Teams are equipped to guard him aggressively… with athletic defenders capable of chasing him

This admission has fueled the belief that the Warriors must be more aggressive at the deadline. If Curry is struggling to carry the load alone, standing pat is no longer a viable option.
