Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reached a historic milestone on Monday night, securing his 600th career victory with a 125-117 win over the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena.
The win not only cements Kerr’s legacy among the game’s greats but also snaps a grueling five-game losing streak for the Warriors, bringing their season record to 33-35.
With this achievement, the 60-year-old Kerr becomes the 28th coach in NBA history to reach the 600-win mark. He now joins Doc Rivers, Rick Carlisle, and Erik Spoelstra as the only active coaches to hold at least 600 career victories.
Despite the celebratory milestone, Kerr’s squad continues to operate under significant duress.
Porzingis dominates in a short-handed rotation
The Warriors remain without superstar Stephen Curry (knee), while veteran Jimmy Butler is sidelined for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.
Additional absences of Al Horford (calf) and Moses Moody (wrist) forced Golden State to rely heavily on their returning depth.
Kristaps Porzingis provided the necessary spark, delivering his most impactful performance in a Warriors uniform. Coming off the bench after resting during Sunday’s loss in New York, Porzingis notched a game-high 30 points on efficient 8-of-13 shooting.
He rounded out a dominant stat line with five rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals, helping Golden State maintain a lead that stretched to as many as 17 points in the first half.
The milestone comes during a season where Kerr has faced scrutiny for his tactical “stubbornness,” specifically regarding his continued reliance on small-ball philosophies.
Resilience amid roster churn
However, the four-time champion coach continues to hold the unwavering trust of core leaders like Draymond Green and Stephen Curry.
That stability was rewarded on Monday as Green and De’Anthony Melton returned to the lineup to provide veteran composure during Washington’s late-game rallies.
The Wizards, who have now lost 12 consecutive games, were led by Trae Young’s 21 points in 21 minutes. Washington cut the deficit to five points late in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors’ defense held firm to secure the win.
Golden State now looks to carry this momentum into a high-stakes matchup against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.
