Stephen Curry has been with his wife Ayesha for over a decade, after they married on July 30, 2011.
However, the beginning of their relationship was not easy for the actress for one reason in particular: the comments and attitudes of some fans of theGolden State Warriors star.
“I was just bawling my eyes out”
Fan comments can be a source of joy or sadness and pain. The Currys knew this well, depending on the player’s performance. However, as soon as this spilled over into her personal life, Ayesha said that fame has opened doors for her, but it wasn’t always easy to handle.
During her appearance on the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” the businesswoman revealed: “I, in the beginning, hated it so much… Sports fans are so different than entertainment fans. And oftentimes, it’s very ruthless,” she said.
Continuing with the idea, Ayesha shared an anecdote in which she did not have a pleasant experience with a fan. They had just welcomed their first daughter, Riley, into the world:
“I remember one time, after my first was born, she was whiny, so I was like, let me nurse her in the back seat. Stephen was putting a bike or something in the trunk. This woman opens the car door, she sticks her head in and is like, ‘I just wanted to see the baby,’” Ayesha recounted.
And as if that weren’t enough, the punchline to this story is even worse: “I’m like, ‘Excuse me?’” Ayesha continued. “She looks me dead in the face and goes, ‘Oh, honey, you know what you signed up for.’“
These words caused the then new mother to break down, and she began to wonder if this could be her new “normal,” despite the disrespect she had just received. “I was just bawling my eyes out. Is this what it’s going to be like?” she wondered.
Fortunately, she was able to find a balance between fame and her private life, and they have learned to cope with the hate and negative comments and turn them to their advantage. However, this story reflects how hard exposure can be, especially at such a vulnerable time.
