Stephen Curry’s hamstring injury could sideline him for 6 games, says sports doctor

Stephen Curry’s health has once again become a major concern in the NBA world after the Warriors‘ star guard exited Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a hamstring injury. The incident occurred midway through the second quarter when Curry was seen clutching his left hamstring multiple times before walking off the court following a Draymond Green three-pointer and a Wolves timeout. Golden State held a 10-point lead at the time, but the energy in Target Center quickly shifted as their most crucial player limped off.

The sight of Curry leaving the court sparked immediate speculation, and now a medical analysis has painted a clearer, and more troubling, picture of what’s ahead.

Doctor’s take: six games could be the average recovery time

Dr. Nirav Pandya, a sports medicine physician who regularly provides commentary on NBA injuries, weighed in shortly after Curry’s exit. On his verified X account, Dr. Pandya referenced a study he led on hamstring injuries in NBA players over a five-year period. The results? An average recovery time of approximately six games.

“This doesn’t mean that Curry can’t be back sooner,” Pandya noted, clarifying that each case varies depending on severity, age, and the player’s physical condition. Still, for a team that’s struggled with rhythm and depth all season, the possibility of losing Curry for even a few games could be devastating.

Playoff momentum in jeopardy

Golden State entered the postseason with momentum and high hopes, but any extended absence from Curry could derail their campaign. The team relies heavily on his shooting, leadership, and spacing. Without him, rotations shrink, pressure mounts, and opposing defenses have one less threat to fear.

Teammates and fans are hopeful this injury won’t mirror previous ones that kept Curry out for extended stretches, but the timing, right as the playoffs begin, couldn’t be worse. The Warriors have yet to issue an official statement on the exact nature or severity of the injury.

Until then, Dub Nation holds its breath. For a team that’s built its dynasty on Curry’s shoulders, even a six-game absence feels like an eternity.
