Stephen Curry’s gesture to Michael Jordan could have a double meaning: Will he sign with Jordan Brand?

Stephen Curry’s recent performance against the San Antonio Spurs did more than just light up the scoreboard, it sparked a frenzy in the sneaker world.

After dropping a season-high 49 points, Curry raised his fingers in a “23” gesture, instantly drawing comparisons to Michael Jordan’s iconic number. Fans and analysts alike began speculating: was this a tribute, a nod to greatness, or even a hint about his next brand partnership now that he’s free from Under Armour?

The gesture carries layers of meaning. Curry has often acknowledged the significance of joining an elite club, and this night was historic: he notched his 44th 40-point game since turning 30, tying Michael Jordan for the most in that age range.

“I was aware of it for sure. I didn’t know about being one away until last game,” Curry said. “Just to be in that type of company, it’s pretty cool.” In essence, the “23” moment was as much about honoring his own achievements as it was about paying homage to Jordan.

Curry’s duel with Victor Wembanyama made the victory even more memorable. Despite a halftime tie, the Warriors edged out the Spurs, with Curry scoring 31 points in the second half and hitting nine triples. The game, part of the NBA Cup, showcased Curry’s enduring dominance and competitive edge.

But beyond the on-court action, sneaker enthusiasts were captivated by Curry’s footwear choice: he wore Nike Kobe 6 “Mambacita” sneakers during pregame warmups, a departure from his long-standing Under Armour signature line.

Curry’s sneaker future: Open doors

With the Under Armour partnership officially over, Curry is now a “sneaker free agent.” The final release of his Curry 13 line marks the end of an era, but the brand itself will continue independently. This opens the door to potential collaborations with Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas, or even continued independent releases under Curry Brand.

While he hasn’t committed to any of these paths, the possibilities are enticing for both Curry and interested brands.

Nike, in particular, has reason to be interested. The company already works with LeBron James and Kevin Durant, and acquiring Curry, one of the most influential players in NBA history, would solidify its dominance in basketball footwear.

Adidas and Reebok are also potential contenders, hoping to leverage star power and innovation to strengthen their presence. Ultimately, Curry has the freedom to choose a partner that aligns with his vision for creativity and global impact.

For now, the viral “23” gesture seems more symbolic than contractual. There is no confirmed deal with Jordan Brand, despite widespread speculation. Instead, it appears to be a celebratory acknowledgment of Curry’s achievements and a subtle reminder of the legacy he’s building.

Whether he opts to return to Nike, join Jordan Brand, or continue growing Curry Brand independently, the basketball world and sneaker enthusiasts alike will be watching every move closely. Curry is officially at a crossroads, and whatever choice he makes could redefine his brand for years to come.
