Stephen Curry reveals why retirement isn’t on his radar despite fame fatigue

During a recent episode of 360 With Speedy, Golden State Warrior‘s legendary point guard Stephen Curry took a moment to provide some insight into his views on fame and retirement.

Curry spoke about the perks his name brings, like calling ahead to theme parks to make entry smoother for his family.

“Maybe like going to a theme park or something… you can call and be like, ‘Hey, the Curry family wants to come in.’ They’ll be accommodating. Might make you pay still, but they’ll make sure you’re taken care of,” he said.

On the surface, it’s advantageous: VIP access, convenience. But Curry‘s tone quickly shifted. He admitted:

“I’m pretty much a recluse. Like I’m in my room, that type of thing. I’m not out like in the streets.”

But Curry didn’t stop there. He confessed to moments of resentment:

“You don’t want to overcomplicate something simple like, ‘Hey, we just want to go to dinner in an hour,’ and I gotta make like seven phone calls… Like I hate, I do hate that part of it.”

Still, he balanced that frustration with gratitude:

“Does this get old? People yelling your name all the time? No. I don’t ever take that for granted… Um, you have to find some balance there for sure. Like I got to be human at some point and find my peace of mind.”

Evaluating the years ahead

At 37 years old, Stephen Curry remains one of the NBA’s most prolific talents, and despite his tenure, he recently made it abundantly clear: retirement is not on his radar.

He stated plainly: “I don’t know. I’m just taking it two years at a time. That’s what I have left on my contract right now.”

Unlike some athletes who announce a near-future farewell, Curry prefers adaptability: measuring his future season by season, focusing instead on immediate performance and longevity.

Curry‘s current contract with the Golden State Warriors runs through the 2026-27 season. He’s not merely content to see it through, he’s stated he’d like to outplay it.

“I know my contract is lined up and I’d like to outplay that, for sure,” he said in early 2025 during a radio interview with 95.7 The Game’s “Steiny & Guru”.

Meanwhile, Dell Curry, Steph’s father, has also addressed the conversation, insisting his son is nowhere close to winding down.

“He still loves the game. He’s a competitive guy… He wants to win another title, so we’re not even close to that window yet,” Dell remarked, projecting a career that could stretch well into Steph‘s 40s thanks to his shooting-based style.
