Stephen Curry pledges shoe brand allegiance in first game after parting ways with Under Armour

The basketball shoe industry was thrown for a loop this week, when it was announced that Stephen Curry and Under Armour were parting ways after over a decade collaborating together. The move was motivated by the Golden State Warriors player wanting to make his Curry Brand independent. He is now, technically, a sneaker free agent.

It was a bit of a shock when Curry joined Under Armour back in 2013. Curry was originally signed to Nike, before he truly entered superstardom. With Curry’s epic rise to greatness, Under Armour was there every step of the way while outfitting him with new signature shoes each season. Now free to wear any shoe brand he wants, Curry appears to have rekindled an old flame.

Stephen Curry wears “Mambacita” Kobe 6 shoes in first game after Under Armour split

In his first game since splitting from Under Armour, Curry showed up for warmups in the Kobe 6 Protro “Mambacita Sweet 16”, a Nike shoe that was designed to honor Kobe Bryant and Gigi Bryant‘s legacy.

Fans couldn’t help but comment that Curry was probably champing at the bit to wear something other than Under Armour shoes. Under Armour doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to shoes, especially in comparison to giants Nike and Adidas.

Curry’s Kobe 6 decision doesn’t mean he’s going to sign with Nike once again. He’s likely to take his time before making a decision, if he even does sign with another big brand.
