Stephen Curry opens the door for LeBron to a final run in Golden State

The Golden State Warriors have endured a terrible 2025-26 season. The team has experienced constant ups and downs throughout the campaign, riding a roller coaster they have been unable to get off.

The Warriors’ postseason chances are practically gone. Although they still have a slim opportunity to fight for a play-in spot and from there sneak into contention for the Finals, it frankly appears unlikely.

It seemed like they were beginning to find momentum, but their three-game winning streak came to an end after Sunday, March 29, 2026, with a loss to the Denver Nuggets.

What made matters worse was that the Bay Area team had built a double-digit lead that they could not maintain. Their energy faded, and the Nuggets’ comeback sealed their fate. With this result, they slipped in the standings and now sit in tenth place in the Western Conference.

Injuries to their key players have significantly impacted their ability to contend. Their superstar, Stephen Curry, has now been out for two months, and it appears he will not return for the remainder of the regular season.

Stephen Curry would be willing to welcome LeBron James

The rumor continues to grow that LeBron James could arrive for the 2026-27 season to reinforce the Golden State Warriors. Now, it is also being reported that the idea has the approval of the team’s biggest star, Stephen Curry.

With consecutive injuries and at 38 years old, Curry understands that time is working against him in his pursuit of another NBA Finals appearance and a championship. That is why he is open to welcoming major stars to strengthen the roster for next season.

LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard are the names being discussed as potential summer moves.

Obviously, any short-term, non-max deal with [L.A. Clipper star Kawhi] Leonard would have to pass the strictest scrutiny in sports history. No funny business this time. But if Kawhi really would take $15 million as a starting salary, the Warriors would certainly have a shot. If he came to the Warriors and they kept [Kristaps] Porzingis and Draymond [Green], the lineup would look something like: Curry and [Brandin] Podziemski in the back court, Kawhi and Draymond at forward, Porzingis at center. … Is that a championship-level rotation? It’d be the closest the Warriors could come without mortgaging every part of their future, and I think Curry would absolutely sign off on all of this.

Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard stated.

It will be necessary to wait and see how things unfold once the season ends and what moves are made as part of the team’s rebuilding process.
