The Golden State Warriors may be the only team that hasn’t made a single move this offseason, but Stephen Curry isn’t panicking. With the NBA regular season just over two months away, the star point guard says he’s confident the current roster is ready to compete.
The team’s last major transaction came before the trade deadline earlier this year, when the Warriors acquired forward Jimmy Butler. That move paid immediate dividends, as Golden State closed the 2024-25 regular season with a 23-7 record after Butler’s arrival and secured a playoff berth.
Despite falling in the second round and Curry ending the season with a hamstring injury, the front office has been quiet this summer. Still, the four-time NBA champion believes that the experience of veterans like Butler and Draymond Green will ensure a strong start to training camp.
Veterans ready to lead
“I think the veteran presence we have-me, Jimmy (Butler), Draymond (Green)-we understand how to prepare through that uncertainty and be able to hit the ground running at training camp,”Curry told reporters at the end of his practice camp for children and teenagers.
The 16-year veteran added that the team’s seasoned players know moves will likely be made before NBA practice camps open in late September.
“You control what you can control,” Curry said, noting that even the unresolved situation surrounding Jonathan Kuminga hasn’t rattled the locker room. “No matter how many experiences you have or whatever the differences of this offseason versus previous ones, you don’t let it affect your own personal preparation for the season.”
The mystery of Kuminga’s future
The young forward became a restricted free agent after his rookie contract expired. The Warriors offered him a two-year, $45 million deal, but Kuminga declined, holding out for a better offer.
Reports suggest the 21-year-old could be traded to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Malik Monk and a protected first-round pick. While that situation remains unresolved, Curry and the rest of the Warriors insist they’re ready to begin training camp at full speed.
