Stephen A. Smith doesn’t want Aaron Rodgers near Shedeur Sanders for an important reason

Stephen A. Smith has admitted that he does not want to see Aaron Rodgers mentoring NCAA talent Shedeur Sanders when the new NFL season begins.

The 2025 NFL Draft is less than a week away now and there is a very real chance that Sanders is going to end up playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and being the understudy to Aaron Rodgers.

The Steelers are without a quarterback as Rodgers is yet to definitely sign, and they possess the 21st overall pick in the draft.

The draft stock of Sanders has been falling consistently in recent weeks and now there is a suggestion that for the Steelers, it could be a case of both Rodgers and Sanders rather than one or the other.

Now, ESPN analyst Smith thinks that learning from Rodgers could be a terrible thing for former Colorado Buffaloes star Sanders.

Smith is not impressed by Rodgers

Speaking on the latest episode of ESPN’s First Take, Smith explained his negative thoughts about Rodgers.

“Nobody is questioning the credentials, the acumen, the cerebral brilliance of an Aaron Rodgers. You’re questioning the willingness. The willingness to teach, the willingness to prep somebody for a career that he has enjoyed for the better part of the last two decades… When you are acknowledging and admitting you’ve got personal issues… That’s not somebody I want my young quarterback exposed to,” he explained.

Guest on the show, Mike Tannenbaum, was not in agreement with Smith on the topic though.

“I think Rodgers knows that part of his legacy will be what he can teach and be a role model to Shedeur, and that will last long after his playing days… There’s so many ways, behind the curtains, that Rodgers either directly or even indirectly, how he composes himself, Shedeur can learn a lot for hopefully the next couple of decades,” Tannenbaum said.
