With the series tied 1-1 and forcing a third game in which one of the two teams will be eliminated, the Indiana Fever will look to take the win Thursday against the Atlanta Dream at the Gateway Center.
Fighting through injuries and various challenges, the team led by Stephanie White knew how to fight and continue to fight to continue their way in the Playoffs. However, it was precisely the 48-year-old coach who had a big revelation during Game 2.
White feels the passage of time
Karl Smesko’s team got off to a great start by beating Fever 80-68, but in the game played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indiana won 77-60.
The truth is that the team is banged up because of the absence of six players: Damiris Dantas, Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, Chloe Bibby and Caitlin Clark. Dantas, who remains out due to the concussion protocol, is the only one of them with a chance of returning to the game.
However, while the game was still in progress and in the midst of the euphoria of the Fever’s partial victory, one of the team’s players, Aerial Powers, llived up to her name and chest-bumped White in a moment of happiness.
It was right at that moment that the coach not only felt the collective joy, but also the passage of time. After the victory, White confessed to the press:
“It’s like the third time, and every time I just keep remembering that I’m not as young as I used to be,” she said.
These words were shared by the team’s Instagram account along with the video in which the 31-year-old guard can be seen celebrating with her coach: “Aerial Powers’ chest bumps are 1-of-1,” Fever wrote.
Fans did not hesitate to fill the comments section of the post and showed their affection for the situation:
“So adorable. I love they include Coach White like that,” said one. “Powers is bringing the HYPE! Love it! Love her!” highlighted a follower. “I love AP so much, she was exactly what we needed, they need tl re-sign her next year” commented a third. “I really like AP. Her energy was excellent yesterday. She has been another really really good pickup,” stated a user. “I mean its in her name,” wrote another fan.
The truth is that Stephanie has been working in the league for 25 years. In her time as a player and as a coach, she has not only become an easily recognized figure for WNBA fans, but also has countless experiences and awards.
However, she has not yet won a championship, so this Thursday against Atlanta, she hopes to continue and finally win this new and long-awaited title.
