When it comes to crossover stunts, Stephen Curry never plays small, and neither does this story.
Recently, the Golden State Warriors superstar found himself on the short end of a golf duel, losing a friendly 1on1 match to content creator Gabriella DeGasperis, known online as “Gabby Golf Girl.”
As a result of that loss, Curry reached out to one of his closest confidants and Olympic teammates, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, to assist him in the aftermath and perhaps pick up a redemption match in the fairway.
A battle of basketball talents turned into a golf rivalry
During a FaceTime conversation captured by Gabby‘s YouTube channel, Curry admitted his defeat and handed Booker the reins:
“I am at the golf course and I lost a bet and I had to pay it up and you’re the most amazing teammate that anybody could have,” Curry said. “So, I figured you come and help me out. I’m here with Gabby Golf Girl.”
He also reminded Booker about his failed attempt to make Gabby carry “the biggest, heaviest tour bag you’ve ever seen in your life,” a fate that would’ve been hers had Curry emerged victorious. Instead, the loss means the chance to face Booker on her turf next time:
“I was gonna have her caddy for me with like the biggest heaviest tour bag you’ve ever seen in your life. But I lost and now she is going to get to play against you.”
This unexpected twist pits two NBA sharpshooters-Curry and Booker-against one viral golf phenom.
And while Curry makes light of his defeat, he made it clear that Booker won’t be treated gently: “By the way, [Booker] is going to get the appropriate amount of strokes, and this man is balling right now on the golf course,” Curry joked during the call.
Beyond the social media buzz, this rivalry offers an intriguing glimpse into NBA stars testing their competitive edge off the court.
Curry and Booker have established synergy beyond their roles on Team USA, where they helped secure Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games. Their bond, both as former national teammates and summer tour partners, adds an interesting layer to this crossover moment.
Curry has long been known for his exploits on amateur golf stages, from celebrity tournaments to viral trick-shot videos, but his loss to Gabby shows that even the greats can get schooled by rising internet talent.
Earlier this month at the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, Curry tied for fifth after winning the event in 2024. His presence at celebrity golf contests has become something of a tradition, highlighting not just his curiosity but his competitive nature on every terrain.
