Steph Curry’s dad weighs in on son’s future with the Warriors: Is retirement in the cards?

As the NBA offseason approaches, the Golden State Warriors find themselves facing critical decisions that will shape their future.

The team is looking to build a championship-contending roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green. This past season, the Warriors made it to the second round of the playoffs, only to be eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games, a series in which Curry’s injury in Game 1 played a significant role.

While the team showed resilience, the reality is that the trio of Curry, Butler, and Green are all nearing the end of their careers.

The Warriors now face the task of upgrading their roster to ensure they can compete for another title before the window closes on this talented core.

Dell Curry weighs in on retirement speculation

Amid speculation about his son’s future in the NBA, Dell Curry, the father of Stephen Curry, recently addressed the topic of retirement. Dell was firm in his response, stating that his son is not yet ready to retire.

“He wants to win another title, so we’re not even close to that window yet. But when the time comes, I think he’ll make the right decision,” Dell said. This comment is significant, as it puts to rest any thoughts that Stephen Curry is planning to retire soon. Instead, it suggests that Curry is still fully focused on his career, with one goal in mind: another championship.

Stephen’s intentions come as no surprise. Despite being 37 years old, Curry continues to perform at an elite level. During the 2024 season, Curry averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He also shot 44.8% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range.

These numbers highlight Curry’s ongoing excellence, defying the typical decline that many players experience as they age. With such impressive stats and leadership, Curry’s passion for the game remains strong, and he’s clearly not ready to step away just yet.

The Warriors’ front office now has a pivotal summer ahead of them. Although Curry’s commitment to the team remains unwavering, Golden State’s management must make strategic decisions to surround him with the necessary talent to chase another championship.

This will likely involve upgrading the roster through trades, free-agent signings, or other moves that will bolster the team’s depth and competitive edge. The team cannot afford to squander Curry’s remaining years in pursuit of another title, and ensuring the right roster moves are made will be essential for that goal.

Steph Curry’s pursuit of another NBA title is far from over. Dell Curry’s recent comments serve as a reminder that the future Hall-of-Famer is still hungry for success. As the Warriors look ahead, the offseason will be critical in determining whether they can capitalize on the remaining years of their championship core and continue to compete at the highest level. The future of the Warriors may be uncertain, but one thing is clear: Stephen Curry is not done yet.
