Steph Curry mocks Hornets’ defense: “It’s not real basketball”

The Golden State Warriors won 136-116 at home against the Charlotte Hornets, securing their third consecutive victory and improving their record to 24-19.

Despite this latest triumph, Stephen Curry was unable to score as many points as he would have liked due to a detail in his opponents’ defensive strategy, and after the game, the NBA’s top three-point shooter had a few words to say about it.

Curry jokes about the Hornets’ “egregious” defense

During the game, Steph scored only 14 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds in 30 minutes of action, which is unusual for the 11-time All-Star, who barely had room to breathe due to “egregious” defense that kept hounding Curry, especially Collin Sexton and rookie Sion James.

However, this is nothing new in Steph’s career, nor is it a strategy that his opponents have not used against him before, as giving the Warriors star free rein is a surefire recipe for defeat.

For this reason, after the game, Curry spoke to the press and referred to this situation, admitting to having mixed feelings about it:

“There’s a part of you that fights it just because it’s not real basketball,” Curry said. “But there’s also a part of it that’s flattering,” he added.

Despite this, Golden State’s #30 said he seeks to take advantage of this situation, which happens more often than he would like. “It’s also funny at times just how egregious it is,” Steph admitted.

Despite the defensive chaos, De’Anthony Melton stepped up for the Warriors, scoring 24 points in 21 minutes. Draymond Green added another 20 to help the team win comfortably.

Now, Curry and the Warriors are preparing to host the Miami Heat (22-20) at Chase Stadium on Monday, January 19.
