Steph Curry invites Alysa Liu to Warriors game after Olympic win

The cheers from the Olympic arena have barely settled for Alysa Liu. But the celebration around her is still growing.

The 20 year old American figure skater, who captured global attention at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, has received a personal invitation from Steph Curry to attend a Golden State Warriors game with her entire family at Chase Center in San Francisco.

The invitation was first reported on March 11 by journalist Marcus Thompson II in The New York Times.

For Liu, who proudly represents her hometown of Oakland, the gesture connects two of the Bay Area’s biggest sports stories in recent years.

A historic Olympic breakthrough

When Liu arrived at the 2026 Winter Olympics, she was already considered one of the most exciting young skaters in the United States. She left Italy as the face of American figure skating.

Her first gold medal came in the Olympic team figure skating event, where she helped Team USA secure the top spot during the opening week of the Games.

A few days later came the defining moment of her career. Liu won the women’s singles Olympic title, delivering a performance that instantly placed her among the most important figures in modern U.S. skating history.

According to the International Olympic Committee, the victory made Liu the first American woman to win Olympic gold in figure skating since Sarah Hughes in 2002. She also became the first U.S. woman to win an Olympic medal in the event since Sasha Cohen earned silver in 2006.

The result ended a two decade wait for the United States to reclaim the top Olympic podium in women’s figure skating.

The Bay Area roots behind Liu’s rise

Liu’s story resonates deeply in Northern California. She grew up in Oakland and has often spoken about the importance of the Bay Area in shaping both her career and identity.

Her father, Arthur Liu, moved to the United States after leaving China in 1989 and later built a family of five children through surrogacy, with Alysa as the oldest. Over the years, Liu has proudly represented Oakland in interviews and competitions.

That connection helps explain why her Olympic success has drawn attention from athletes across the region.

When a Bay Area legend notices

For more than a decade, Steph Curry has been the defining sports figure in the Bay Area through his achievements with the Golden State Warriors. The four time NBA champion is currently sidelined with a knee injury while the team works through a difficult stretch of the season.

Even while away from the court, Curry has been following Liu’s Olympic moment. His invitation reflects the pride that often emerges when a new champion rises from the same community.

The idea of Liu appearing courtside at Chase Center has already sparked excitement among fans who see it as a meeting of two generations of Bay Area sports icons.

If Liu accepts the invitation, the Olympic champion could soon be sitting just a few feet from the hardwood where Curry built his legacy.

And for Liu, the recognition from one of basketball’s most influential players is another sign of how far her Olympic victory has carried her.

This article draws on reporting published by The New York Times and Olympic historical records from the International Olympic Committee. Background information on Alysa Liu’s Olympic results and U.S. figure skating history is based on official Olympic statistics and publicly available athlete data.
