The Steelers liked what they saw-and they’re making sure DeShon Elliott sticks around.
Pittsburgh has agreed to a two-year, $12.5 million extension with the veteran safety, including $9.21 million guaranteed, a source confirmed to ESPN. Elliott had signed a two-year deal with the team just before the 2024 season but has quickly earned a new one with his physical, high-impact play.
In a year filled with defensive injuries and inconsistency, Elliott became one of the most reliable players on the field. He finished the 2024 season with 108 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. That kind of production didn’t go unnoticed by the front office-or his teammates.
A hard-hitting safety with a reputation for chaos, Elliott’s playstyle fits perfectly in Pittsburgh’s defensive identity.
The 28-year-old brings a veteran presence and a bruising style to the secondary, playing mostly in the box and thriving against the run. According to Pro Football Focus, he graded out as one of the team’s top run defenders, right behind Minkah Fitzpatrick.
A former sixth-round pick, Elliott spent time with the Ravens, Lions, and Dolphins before landing in Pittsburgh. Across 72 career games, he’s posted 395 total tackles and built a reputation as a no-nonsense tone-setter.
By getting ahead of the curve with this extension, the Steelers are showing confidence in their defensive core heading into the 2025 season. And Elliott’s not just along for the ride-he’s helping drive the bus.
