Splash Brothers reunion? Steph Curry weighs in on Klay Thompson’s comeback chances

The Golden State Warriors are still trying to find solid footing in a season that has refused to settle. At 13-14 heading into Thursday night’s road game against the Phoenix Suns, the 2025-26 campaign has produced more questions than answers for a franchise accustomed to control and confidence.

Stephen Curry continues to be the constant. The Warriors’ star has delivered night after night, carrying the offense with the same gravity that defined an era. Big shots, high-scoring performances, and relentless movement are still there. What has not followed is the support. Golden State’s secondary production has been uneven, and that imbalance has kept the team hovering around mediocrity instead of climbing the Western Conference standings.

With results lagging behind expectations, the past has started to feel louder. Fans remember when the offense felt automatic, when leads evaporated in minutes and defenses had no margin for error. That version of Golden State was built around the Splash Brothers. And now, with Klay Thompson playing elsewhere, the thought of a reunion has resurfaced.

“I don’t know… That’s a long ways away. That’s a lot of basketball to be had. I don’t know what the future holds

Curry speaks as reunion speculation gains momentum

Thompson, currently with the Dallas Mavericks, recently addressed the idea of returning to the Bay Area. Speaking to ESPN reporters Anthony Slater and Tim McMahon, the veteran guard offered a measured response. “I don’t know,” Thompson said. “That’s a long ways away. That’s a lot of basketball to be had.” It was neither a commitment nor a dismissal, leaving room for interpretation.

Curry followed with a more emotional perspective. The Warriors leader acknowledged how meaningful a reunion would be and admitted he would not hesitate to reach out if the situation ever became real. Still, Curry made it clear that, at present, the idea feels distant, even if Thompson’s original departure once seemed unlikely.

Context around Thompson’s situation in Dallas adds weight to the discussion. He joined the Mavericks expecting to bolster a Finals-level core, but the franchise’s unexpected decision to move on from Luka Doncic altered the trajectory. As noted by ESPN and The Athletic, the move signaled a reset rather than a push toward immediate contention, leaving Thompson on a roster without a clear championship timeline.

That reality naturally fuels speculation. During their peak, Curry and Thompson helped redefine modern offense, winning four championships and setting shooting benchmarks that remain untouched, according to NBA.com historical data.

For now, the conversation lives in theory. Golden State must focus on correcting course, tightening rotations, and easing the burden on Curry. The Warriors tip off against Phoenix at 9:00 p.m. ET, still chasing answers. The memories are powerful, but the present demands solutions.
