This weekend, the WNBA will be celebrating with the All-Star Game, with the best players on the planet gathered in one place. The event has prompted some basketball players, like Sophie Cunningham, to share their experiences with the competition on social media; however, the Fever’s player wasn’t expected to be criticized in such a manner.
The WNBA All-Star Game kicks off friday night with the Skills Challenge and the 3-Point Shootout. The All-Star Game itself will begin saturday night. The WNBA named two captains for the event, one from each conference: Clark for the East and Lynx superstar Napheesa Collier for the West.
Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman came to Cunningham’s defense
Beyond a basketball game, the All-Star Game is a media event. So much so that Minnesota Lynx guards Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman have been streaming their All-Star Game experience live from Indianapolis on Twitch, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the festivities.
However, during one of their streams, things took an unexpected turn when Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever appeared on camera, and the conversation escalated with negative comments. Williams and Hiedeman responded to the hate: “Anyone who has anything negative to say about Sophie, take it down,” they agreed.
Caitlin Clark announces her withdrawal from the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game
The WNBA All-Star Game lost its hometown star and the player fans most wanted to see, as Caitlin Clark withdrew due to injury. Clark was selected for the game for the second time, serving as a captain courtesy of being one of the top two players to receive the most votes.
Additionally, the Fever guard was scheduled to compete in the 3-Point Shootout, but suffered a torn groin in the final minute of Tuesday’s game in Boston against the Connecticut Sun. She did not play Wednesday against the New York Liberty and will not return to the court for the weekend at the Indiana Fever’s home, Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
