Sophie Cunningham had her first year with the Indiana Fever and not only won the Commissioner’s Cup but also helped the team reach the WNBA playoff semifinals.

After tearing the medial collateral ligament in her right knee in August, she had to end her season. Now, in the offseason and recovering, Sophie has given a new update on her personal project.

Cunningham shares news about her basketball tournament

After playing in 30 games where she averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, Sophie was ruled out for the rest of the season due to her injury.

Although she was unable to be on the court, the 29-year-old point guard remained involved in the sport and, in January, will host the fourth annual Sophie Cunningham Classic.

This tournament is for female athletes and will run for three days, from January 9 to 11, 2026, at Bob Burchard Court at Southwell Complex, Columbia College.

Sophie has now revealed that tickets for the event are already available, but she surprised everyone by offering a discount to current and former military personnel and their families, as the event will take place on January 9, Military Appreciation Day, and January 10, First Responders Day. For this reason, tickets will be available for $5 instead of $10.

Fans were quick to show their support and appreciation for Cunningham’s initiative, commenting:

“Nice, greatly appreciated,” said one. “Thankful for our military & 1st responders!!!” wrote another. “Great to give back to the vets like my dad. Never enough appreciation and respect given to vets and all they have done for the country,” commented a third fan.

Meanwhile, in the offseason, it has been reported that Sophie will be part of “Project B,” a 5-on-5 basketball league that offers higher financial compensation than the current league and will be launched this year to play during the WNBA offseason. However, with no contract with the Fever for 2026 and being a free agent, coupled with the expansion draft, her place in Indiana is not assured.

Meanwhile, as fans eagerly await Cunningham‘s return to the court and look forward to her future in the WNBA, she is preparing for her tournament, which promises “big matchups, great energy, and an amazing community all in one place.”
