Sophie Cunningham was “disgusted” to learn about a Bills Mafia tradition before Buffalo games

Since Sophie Cunningham joined the WNBA in the 2019 draft with the Phoenix Mercury, and especially this year with the Indiana Fever, she has felt the warmth, passion, and euphoria of the fans.

However, she had never witnessed some of the rituals that are common among fans of other sports, such as the NFL, so when some of them were revealed to her on her podcast, she couldn’t believe it.

Sophie reacts to the Bills Mafia celebrations

In one of the segments about the NFL’s drunkest fans on the podcast she hosts with West Wilson, “Show Me Something,” Sophie was amazed after a crazy anecdote about a curious ritual performed by Buffalo Bills fans, also known as the Bills Mafia.

Wilson was the one who revealed it, after West asked his guest, Kevin, if he knew about his beginnings as a content creator: “Don’t you know that this is my origin story on TV? Doing a Ketchup Kenny ceremony?” This quickly provoked an instant reaction from his guest, who replied curiously: “No, what? That’s f***king incredible!”

West then shared one of his videos where three Bills fans appear on the roof of a bus drinking from bowling balls, while being energetically cheered on by other fans. However, when Sophie asked if those bowling balls had been used, West admitted that they had. This caused Cunningham to make noises of nausea in clear disgust at the idea. Despite this, it didn’t end there.

The video showed a man named Kenny approaching the bus and holding up a hamburger. He was then sprayed with ketchup and mustard, causing Sophie to react with horror: “OH NO! That’s absolutely disgusting. I don’t like this at all.”

The Fever star then asked if it was always the same man, to which West replied that it was and that it was a tradition they had been repeating for years. “That’s actually disturbing and f***ing gross… that’s just disgusting as f***. My hands are sweating. Ew,” Sophie concluded, clearly disgusted.

Meanwhile, recovering from an injury suffered in August after tearing the medial collateral ligament in her right knee, Cunningham has taken advantage of the offseason to focus on other aspects of her life.

One of them is podcasting, but she has also revealed that next year, during the WNBA postseason, she will join the 5-on-5 league, Project B.

However, fans are eagerly awaiting the 2026 season, as her place in Indiana is not guaranteed. With no contract with the Fever for next year and being a free agent, coupled with the expansion draft, Cunningham will have to evaluate her chances of staying in Indiana.
