Caitlin Clark stole the spotlight after participating in the LPGA’s Annika Pro-Am tournament for the second consecutive year. But she wasn’t the only one who stole the show.
Accompanied by her caddies Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull, her teammates at Indiana Fever, one of them was enchanted by the sport and decided to reveal her upcoming plans.
Clark may have a new golf partner
Cunningham did not participate in the pro-am tournament like Caitlin, but in the latest episode of her podcast “Show Me Something,” which she hosts with West Wilson, the 29-year-old point guard talked about her experience at the event.
However, what caught the attention was her revelation that she wants to start playing the sport: “I think I have some potential in my golf game,” Cunningham said.
She also praised CC for her skill in the sport, saying that for her teammate, playing golf is like being in her favorite place: “She’s really good,” Sophie said. “She can really hit it well… My getaway is the pool and the beach. Hers is golf.”
During the episode, Cunningham also mentioned Hull and revealed that golf will be part of the “Tres Leches” trio’s life during the WNBA offseason:
I think me, her, and Lexie are going to go and play a little bit more, because we had fun. It was a blast. It was so, so nice… Just a completely different vibe than basketball. It was cool.
Their presence at this event comes after closing an intense and challenging season with the Indiana Fever, where injuries plagued the team.
In fact, Clark was only able to play 13 games in total due to injuries to her quadriceps, ankle, and groin. She averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.6 steals before having to leave the court.
Cunningham was having a solid first season with the Indiana Fever, but suffered a torn MCL in her right knee, ending her year in August with averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 30 games.
Hull was the only one of the three who did not suffer an injury and averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, reaching the Playoff Semifinals with the team.
Only Clark has a contract with the Fever for next season, so Hull and Cunningham will be free agents once the trade period opens on February 1.
